Sandbanks, in Poole, is known for its expensive properties and various celebrity residents. In 1965, John Lennon bought a bungalow there for his Aunt Mimi, the woman who had brought him up, as an escape from the Beatles fans who constantly surrounded her home in Liverpool. The house was called Harbour’s Edge, and she lived there for the rest of her life. John was a frequent visitor, and it was as much a sanctuary for him as it was for Mimi. This piece explores the connection between Lennon and Sandbanks, and what happened to the house.
